  • Google announces Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) will trump App Deep Links

Google announces Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) will trump App Deep Links

Speaking at SMX East, held recently in New York, the head of Global Product Partnership at Google, Adam Greenberg revealed that AMP pages will “override app deep link”. For example, if you are a publisher whose website has AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) URLs activated and if you have a mobile app with Google App Indexing, users who download your app will be able to view the AMP URL instead of the deep link to the content contained in your app.

    amp_google_deep_linking

Google’s Senior Webmaster Trends Analyst John Muller too confirmed this statement by tweeting—

Recently, Google was in the news for carrying AMP to the core mobile search results. However, the tech giant was quick enough to make notable changes to its project soon after the rollout. As per the changelog, AMP will override app deep links.

Google has taken several initiatives over the years to promote App Indexing by encouraging app developers to incorporate deep links to their apps along with App Indexing. But presently, if you have deployed both AMP and App Indexing to your website, Google search results will prefer to show the AMP pages above the deep link to your app pages.

What Made Google Update Its Changelog Soon After the Rollout?

Reiterating on the immediate and quick update, Google said that they have taken this decision because AMP helps them deliver their services in a better way because of its reliability and speed, besides helping Google enhance the user experience. The tech giant further said that Accelerated Mobile Page uses ten times less data compared to a non-Accelerated Mobile Page. Moreover, AMP utilises smart caching to ensure content and advertorials are displayed flawlessly.

    LogicSpeak:

As mentioned above, Google believes people like AMP pages as they load pretty fast and consume 10x less data compared to non AMP pages. To provide a faster experience, Google is planning to show your AMP pages over the deep link to the page. In simple terms, if your user has downloaded your app and you have the deep linking in place; at the same time if you have created AMP pages, Google will serve the AMP pages above the deep link to your app pages. This can reduce traffic to your app pages.

  • Google’s newest feature – “Now on Tap’ recognition

Google ‘Now on Tap’ sounded absurdly cool when it was released a year ago, but it has failed to gain the momentum that was expected and alternatively been quite dreary. It is clearly toying with a component that could make it substantially more valuable. Users are seeing optical character recognition as a major aspect of ‘On Tap’; however the execution appears to be very early.

With respect to optical character recognition, it is not quite the same as checking the content on a page or as it has been consistent on Google. This new feature is now equipped to identify the text embedded in photos like regular searches. An important factor to consider would be that this feature does not work on all phones equally. Different phones give different OCR results and one has to have an android device upgraded to the latest 6.0 Marshmallow version to try out this cool feature.

It was first spotted by Reddit users who experimented with this idea. The highlight of OCR on Google ‘Now on Tap’ is by all accounts in its initial stages as it gives distinctive results every time. Most of the times, it does not convey any results at all. The simplest way to work around this is to take a picture from the upgraded 6.0 version of the Android camera and scan it with Google Now on Tap. This amazing feature reads all the content or even phone numbers from the image and furnishes results.

Google Now - Latest Feature (Img. courtesy :gadgets.ndtv.com )
Google Now – Latest Feature (Img. courtesy :gadgets.ndtv.com )

We tried this feature on the Nexus 6P and it worked several times. It helped us find information of the text in the images as above. While some Reddit clients checked for book and TV information and got their corresponding outcome. While some scanned phone numbers and were shown Google Card. Since this feature is quite in the nascent stage, Google hasn’t promoted it yet. Regardless, it is an appreciated component for most Android users.

Character recognition to read posts (img courtesy :gadgets.ndtv.com)
Character recognition to read posts (img courtesy :gadgets.ndtv.com)

Although the feature hasn’t been doing the best job at recognition. In the above example, when pointed at a calendar full of manual hand written notes, the viewfinder recognizes ‘Clift’ instead of ‘’Clift’. Peculiarly, when I pointed the camera specifically at Villa Florence (the name of an inn in San Francisco) and centered in on the content, it didn’t show any results. Similarly, while attempting to point the camera at the Giants sweatshirt. As you see from the above picture the group’s name and logo is exceptionally conspicuous. Easily identifiable phone numbers and large texts may work well. This clearly is at its experimental stage but could show signs of improvement or could disappear entirely.

Google will now let you export your files as epub files, a common format for eBooks. This is part of a new feature by Google Drive. One of the components of epub files are that their design is indicated by the gadget’s screen size, something missing in pdf formats. Besides Amazon Kindle devices, the file is supported by almost all the e-readers.

News:Chinese investors pour funds into the Indian digital start-ups

China invests in India's digital startups @LogicserveDigi

For many years, Investment from China was only 0.47% ($1.2 billion) of the total FDI inflow in India between the years 2000-2015. The investment flow from China remained a hostage to the security concerns though it was one of the India’s largest trading partners in 2008 surpassing the US.

  • GOOGLE REVOLUTIONISES EMAIL MARKETING WITH GMAIL ADS

Over the years, email has become an integral part of our everyday life. Be it staying in touch with family and friends to getting updates from favourite brands, Email plays a huge role today. Brands have constantly sought ways to utilise this medium to reach out to their audience. Google’s Gmail Ads is the most recent platform that will give brands the much needed edge when it comes to Email Marketing.

    What are Gmail Ads?

Gmail Ads, formerly known as Gmail Sponsored Promotion, is a type of online advertising within the Google AdWords platform. In case you haven’t seen Gmail Ads, you can find them at the top of the Promotions tab in your personal Gmail inbox. Gmail Ads are highly-targeted promotions wherein the campaigns are conducted based on a user’s recent email behaviour and online purchase.

    Gmail Ads

For instance, if a user has booked a travel ticket to Goa, they will receive a holiday purchase receipt in their inbox. An hotelier or a resort based in Goa can target this user by displaying ads in their inbox the next time the user logs into his email.

When a user clicks on a Gmail Ads, the advertiser is charged for the click and the user is shown an expanded ad, which redirects the visitor to a landing page, just like a regular Pay Per Click ad. Like Facebook Ads or Google Display Network, an advertiser can concentrate their advertising efforts targeting only those users who they deem most likely to be interested in their product.

How to Create a Gmail Ads Campaign?

From a purely technical point of view, Gmail Ads are same as Display campaign. An advertiser familiar with Google Display Network would find it really easy to setup a Gmail Ads campaign. The first step is to setup a Display Network Only campaign.

Gmail Ads campaign shares the exact targeting options as any Display Campaign. The key differentiators that make an ad group a ‘Gmail Ads’ one are:

    1. An advertiser has to opt for managed placement: mail.google.com.

remarketing      2. An advertiser has to use Gmail Ads specific creative units.

    3. Gmail Ads offers a few unique reporting columns which are specific to the platform. These include reporting on the number of saves and forwards. An advertiser can acquire these indicators from the ‘Gmail Ads’ set of columns.

    gmails ads

What are the Targeting Methods in Gmail Ads?

An advertiser who is familiar with Google Display Network will find that Gmail Ads offer targeting options which are similar to GDN. The key highlight here is that Gmail Ads targeting allows you to make specific strategies to combat competitor brands. An advertiser can form specific strategies based on particular keywords for niche products.

Targeting options available in Gmail Ads:

    Gmail Targeting options

How To Create an ad unit for Gmail Ads campaign?

For creating the ad unit for Gmail Ads campaign, an advertiser has to go to the “Ads” tab within the ad group. Click on the “+Ads” button and go to “Ad Gallery” and select “Gmail Ads.”

Points to Note When Creating an ad unit in Gmail Ads

    1. An advertiser has to name their ad, so as to identify it in AdWords
    2. An advertiser has to add a display and destination URL
    3. A brand logo, not larger than 144px x 144px
    4. The brand name, not more than 16 characters
    5. A subject line for the email, maximum 25 characters
    6. A description or ad text, maximum 100 characters,
    7. An expanded ad unit image, not larger than 650 X 650.

The most frequently used template is the single clickable image, which allows an advertiser to use a single image and call to action, however an advertiser can experiment based on their campaign requirement. An advertiser is offered the following Gmail Ads templates that they can choose from:

    Gmail Ads

How does a typical Gmail Ad appear on screen?

A typical Gmail Ad unit consists of two parts – A teaser Ad and An Expanded Ad Unit. The teaser creates the initial interest amongst the user. Once the user clicks the teaser, the fully expanded ad, which looks like an email, is served.

    Teaser and expanded AD

A Gmail Ad teaser has a 25 Character headline field and a 100 character body text field. The advertiser can add a 144px X 144px image along with a ‘Company Name’ field. These will be displayed on the left hand side of the ad.

The expanded ad unit, which is displayed once the user clicks open the teaser ad, expands into the email area of Gmail. The expanded ad is not more than 650px X 650px. The expanded ad can feature static images, text, links, and embedded YouTube Videos and lead forms within the campaign creative.

The advertiser is charged on a CPC basis when a user clicks on the teaser to open the expanded ad. The expanded ads offer call to action that can drive traffic to the advertiser’s website. No additional costs are levied if a user visits the advertised landing page or takes an action within the expanded ad.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Optimum Delivery: Show ads only 10x per user within a 30-day period until they open or dismiss it.
    • Effective Formats: See an open rate of up to 3.5% on average.
    • Engaging Ads: Make ads engaging with images and lead forms.
    • Better Performance: At-par, if not better, performance compared to other display placements.
    • Additional Matrix: Gmail Ads lead to thousands of “saves” and “forwards” that can’t be measured by traditional search and display advertising campaigns.
    • Higher Open Rate: Gmail Ads usually have a higher open rate; primarily due to teaser ads being placed in a premium position (top of the mail box) leading to higher opens of the teaser ads.

The higher open rate, due to the premium position of the teaser ad, results in a lot of money being spent behind opens and eventually, if people don’t click to go to the website, the cost per website click becomes very high. That being said, the value proposition that Gmail Ads offer is that it is an ideal platform for branding and provides greater exposure thanks to the big canvas.

Gmail Ads is a really great platform that can help an advertiser generate awareness amongst their target audience. While at the same it is also a great platform that drives conversions, as well. Gmail Ads have become an integral part of AdWords add to it the fact that they are cost-effective, an advertiser has a platform that is efficient and perfect to experiment on. Although, to create a successful Gmail Ad campaign, thoughtful planning and strategy is required at the core and creatives that are really engaging and out of the box.

  • How to Create a Digital Marketing Funnel

How to Create a Digital Marketing Funnel

    Digital marketing funnel @LogicserveDigi

A lot of people believe that creating a sales funnel is a dead marketing tactics, but we have a different opinion altogether. While such business tactics has been used extensively in the past; things have evolved a great deal. When you are looking to create the best digital marketing funnel, here are the things you need to be acquainted with.

    1.     Educating The Customers

Initially, you need to offer the right kind of understanding and value to your customers. This step can be a little tricky because the people you approach have not yet made their decision to avail your products and/or services. In this step, you have to reach out to potential customers, explicitly define the problems which they are already facing and then give them the solution to their problems.

This method aims at bringing more and more people interested in your service. You should not expect to have a 100% result because there will be people who are not going to be convinced regardless of what statistics and factual data you show them.

You need to adopt the right approach and try and offer as much positive information as it is feasible. With the right information and a convincing pitch, you will be able to educate the customers and get them on your side as well. This strategy forms the top of the funnel.

    2.     Persuading The Customers

This strategy falls in the middle of the funnel. It can be tricky and tough. In this part, your main aim is to persuade the customers to bring you sales. Once you have educated your potential customers; you now need to ensure that they are actually influenced by the quality of your products and services ad express desire to buy the same.

Before the beginning of this stage, your customers are aware of what you have to offer. However, in this stage, you need to offer them even more incentives and make sure that they do not end up navigating away. You need to offer the best incentives and highlight the reasons as to why they should choose you. The more people you persuade, the better will be the output which you will get from the marketing funnel strategy. This stage can last for a longer duration depending upon the ease with which you can convince your customers.

    3.     Sell To The Customers

This is the bottom part of the funnel and involves the use of the apt sales pitch. Despite knowing the details and being aware of the fundamentals, a sales pitch is mandatory because it is the thing that ultimately brings you the final sales. You need to have a clear call to action and you have to guide your customers to making the final sales. Offer free discounts or even products; hold giveaways, have lottery coupons or do whatever marketing which you thing can bring you quick and instant sales.

When you are following this systematic step by step marketing funnel strategy, your business is likely to reap the right set of dividends and you may be able to enjoy the finest benefits as well.

  • Why Infographics Matters in Digital Marketing

    Infographics-in-Digital-Marketing @LogicservDigi

We live in an age where we are buffeted by a torrent of information flowing towards us. The Internet is truly a fire hose that keeps gushing out information. There was a time when you needed to travel to your local library to look up a piece of information in the Encyclopedia Britannica. Now, Wikipedia has thousands of times more information than Britannica ever did. The amount of information at our fingertips has exploded in the last 20 years with the growth of the internet.

    Infographics to The Rescue!

From addictive social media websites that keep scrolling infinitely to endless entertaining and informative videos on YouTube, there is more content out there than we can hope to find the time to consume.

The digital age has even disrupted the news business. To survive into the post-print era, newspapers are adopting a variety of new techniques while newcomers such as Vox, FiveThirthEight and Quartz seek to differentiate themselves with data-driven journalism.

When you have a lot of related data, there is no better way to present that information than via using graphical elements such as charts and other varieties of infographics.

    Infographics in Digital Marketing

Digital marketing is no different than other content out there that is trying to attract attention to itself and saying “Look at me!”

To hold the attention of the busy consumers, you need to present your information in an user-friendly manner. Infographics makes things easier to scan and grasp rather than information presented in a purely textual manner.

If you can compress information from 500 words into a single eye-catching infographic, you got a far better chance that your message will reach the target audience.

Even Google Trends shows how the interest in the term “infographics” has increased in the last decade.

    Trends-in-infographics @LogicserveDigi

    How Infographics Helps Digital Marketing

Let us see a few ways in which use of infographics improves your digital marketing and content marketing campaign.

    Visually-rich Infographics Get More Eyeballs

When you present your information in an infographic format with eye-catching detail rather than using pure text or tables, more of your target audience are likely to click it and peruse it rather than overlook it. When you create a digital marketing campaign, clearly the larger number of clicks it gets is the best indication of its success as a campaign.

    Viral Content

When you create rich infographics, you increase the likelihood of its being shared on social media helping it go viral. People are more likely to share content that is interesting and infographics-rich content is usually more interesting than just bland text.

For example, we might simply that the Pentagon has a budget close to $700 billion while NASA’s budget is in the range of $17 billion. Or, present that information in the form of a chart. Clearly, even a basic chart makes things look way more interesting.

    viral_content @LogicserveDigi

    SEO Benefits

When content becomes popular and is widely shared, it has SEO benefits as Google and other search engines will give more weight to such content.

    LogicSpeak:
When you present information using infographics, you can grow your reputation in a given field and be known as the subject matter expert and you will attract greater number of visitors. When visitors find the infographics interesting, they will stick around longer and the bounce rate will be lower for your campaign thus helping your digital marketing effort get more for your buck.

So, go ahead and be sure to use visual-rich elements in your digital marketing campaigns and be sure that infographics are one of those elements.
