Google’s New Rich Communications Services Platform – What you need to know

There was a time when SMS used to be a popular way of staying connected with friends and family. But in spite of its omnipresence, SMS failed to evolve with time as the features offered by smartphones today have surpassed the conventional way of text messaging.

In order to streamline messaging services for Android devices, Google has recently announced the launch of Rich Communications Services platform, also known as RCS with the objective of incorporating improved features to the standard SMS services that focus only on text-only communication on mobile devices.

This messaging service will be launched by Google as an integrated messaging app named ‘Android Messages’ which will substitute Android’s existing messaging app— ‘Messenger for Android’. Android Messages which will enable you to share larger files, high-resolution images, make video calls, and chat with groups. Moreover, its read-receipt feature will allow you to know when the text messages are read by the recipients. This app has been designed to support both MMS and SMS messaging to deliver messages to devices and networks that do not support RCS messaging. In simple words, RCS, unlike other text messaging apps, can function over cellular networks regardless of the user’s device, network operator, or client.

Google has taken the initiative of launching the new messaging format after working collaboratively with several Original Equipment Manufacturers and carriers across the globe over the last few years to provide Android users with a seamless and consistent text messaging experience.

    How will RCS benefit businesses?

RCS business messaging will benefit businesses by enabling them to share more interactive messages with their customers. In order to motivate businesses to utilize the new messaging format, Google has introduced a special program called ‘Early Access Program’ to which several reputable companies are already registered. The program will enable businesses to learn about the technology so as to utilize it in the best possible way to provide their customers with a modernized messaging experience.

The adoption of RCS platform by Google will go a long way in competing with popular messaging apps such as Apple’s iMessage, Facebook Messenger, which is gearing up to launch unified Page inbox worldwide, and WhatsApp which has rolled out its new ‘status’ feature recently.

  • What is Google Webmaster Tools API

What is Google Webmaster Tools API

    Webmster_features @LogicserveDigi

If you are looking for attention from that daddy of search engines Google for your site and through organic free traffic, then you know you have to optimize your site. The first step towards it is by signing up for the Google Webmaster Tools or GWT.

The GWT is free and has been designed to help webmasters like you to know what is happening with your site. This will enable you to then take decisions that are based on hard data as opposed to doing anything through guesswork.

So what are the objectives you can achieve through GWT?

Once you have logged in to the GWT, you need to verify you are the owner of the site, which can be done through:

    1. Adding the DNS record to the domain configuration.
    2. Adding a Meta tag to the homepage and verified you are the owner of the site.
    3. Uploading the HTML file to the server.
    4. Linking the Google Analytics account you have created to the GWT.

You will now begin to see data pertaining to your site within some hours. The dashboard presents you with an overview of the keywords you are beginning to rank for along with the traffic. You will also see the pages Google has already indexed, sites that are beginning to link to your site and whether the Google bot is finding it difficult to crawl through your site.

There is other stuff you can do to help Google notice and rank your site using GWT. They are:

    Configuration of your site

    webmaster_dashboard @LogicserveDigi

This is done by submitting a sitemap to let Google know the pages of your site. Google will then start indexing them. The sitemap is submitted in XML format. It can be done by just going to XML Sitemaps, entering the URL and clicking the “Start” button. Once the sitemaps are loaded, Google will let you know the URLs that are indexed. Do not worry if all pages are not indexed as you will not want RSS feeds and other important data pages or private login pages to be indexed.

As your site gains in popularity, Sitelinks are added to it by Google and these connect to the interior pages of the site presenting visitors with information they may want to peruse. You are free to remove them or keep the links you want people to access. It is also possible to inform GWT about your target audience and the specific countries they belong to. You can also pick the domain name of your preference as either https://yourdomain.com or https://www.yourdomain.com. Either of them will work and help in site rankings.

    Crawl Rate

    Crawler @LogicserveDigi

You can instruct the Google Bot to crawl your site more often as well as faster if you wish to. Typically, though you should let Google decide the frequency and pace at which they crawl your site. Too frequent crawling can cause a lot of bot traffic going to your server and that would increase hosting cost.

    Crawl Stats

Thanks to the GWT, you would be able to view how Google is looking at your site through the crawl stats it provides. This is done through graphs, data tables that you would be able to see and if they are not provided, you can consider making changes to the crawl rate on the settings option.

    Monitoring of Links

One of the ways of getting ranked higher by Google is to have more sites linking to your site. This should ideally happen naturally as it is expected that your site would provide valuable information to visitors. However, you can still monitor link growth through GWT where in you will also be able to know the pages that people have liked and are linking.

If you find it difficult to get links, you may try writing content for social web directories like Digg.com. The link bait content you present can provide you with a lot of links.

    LogicSpeak:

The above are just some of the useful ways in which you can make use of GWT. It is a free useful guide that will set you on the right track to make sure your site is noticed by Google and you get the free organic traffic you are looking for.

Basic GA features such as the visitor acquisition, behavior, and conversion data are available in both Universal Analytics as well as in Classic Analytics. You will also find that both the versions have event tracking and AdWords account linking.

The features which distinguish Universal Analytics from Classic Analytics –

At the same time, some advanced advertisement tools not included in Universal Analytics include AdSense, Content Experiments, Remarketing and DFA.

Key Highlight of Universal Analytics –

    • The newly introduced, analytics.jscode snippet is used to collect data from your website. This biggest advantage of JavaScript is that it is more flexible than its predecessor—Google Analytics ga.js JavaScript.
    •  The tracking code offered allows you to collect data using any digital device. Taking this further –
    • Track websites – analytics.js JavaScript library
    • Track Mobile Apps – Google Analytics SDKs (v2.x or higher)
    • Track other digital devices such as game consoles & information kiosks – the Measurement Protocol
    • Easy to set up and customize tracking code which assists in cross domain tracking in the most accurate manner.
    • Through the account Admin page, you can control organic search parameters, referral exclusions and even search time exclusions.

Also, Universal Analytics allows creation of custom metrics in an easy to understand and create manner as compared to the procedure in Classic Analytics which some of the webmasters found cumbersome and difficult to do.  This goes a long way in providing key insights to the website and its performance in a much better way.

    LogicSpeak:

You will have to decide if you want to remain with legacy methods or adapt to the changing world with newer methods. Taking the right decision in business is very important and you will have to make sure that you always take an informed decision.
